LAUNCHING CAREERS AND GROWING OPPORTUNITIES
Launching in 2023, the Alternative is a South Australian program changing how people start their careers.
Over 18-months, a pool of graduates will be connected with three paid industry placements, spending six months at each to thrive and make connections with leading SA industries, among fellow leaders.
These graduates will gain real-world experience, an abundance of growth and be part of a progressive graduate community.
The Alternative is an exciting initiative of the Government of South Australia.
It offers South Australian businesses access to a pool of talented graduates on a paid rotational placement basis.
Eligible graduates may apply to be participants in a graduate pool administered by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (Department).
A panel of SA businesses will be established by the Department and that arrangement will be governed by agreements between the Department and those SA businesses. Participation in this panel will enable SA businesses access to the graduate pool via a Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) provider (engaged by the Department), which will employ the graduates and facilitate an appropriate placement program on a six-monthly rotational basis.
The RPO provider will engage directly with the SA businesses to select the best suited graduates and arrange the rotational placements.
The Department will be responsible for high level management and administration of ‘The Alternative’ program, including facilitating the application process for graduates to access and be a part of the graduate pool, the administration of the panel of SA businesses, and the engagement of the RPO provider.
The Department will also provide ongoing support for program participants, including relevant training to eligible SA businesses. The Department anticipates that the RPO
provider will be responsible for the day-to-day assessment, selection and rotational placement of graduates from the graduate pool into SA businesses, and will be responsible for employment matters such as line reporting, performance management and payroll, taking this burden away from SA businesses.
SA businesses will make simple payments to the Department for participation in the program, and to the RPO for the salaries and entitlements of the graduate participants.
The three rotations, spanning an exciting 18 month period, are designed to keep participants engaged, challenged and motivated.
They’ll help graduates identify and explore their skills across a variety of roles and projects; helping them to identify what type of work they enjoy most, or are best suited to.
